Thanksgiving in Alberta can be a time of warmth, connection, and gratitude — but it can also bring stress. From preparing the perfect meal to juggling family dynamics, many Albertans find themselves exhausted by the time the long weekend ends.
If you’re already feeling the pressure, you’re not alone. Here are some ways to let go of perfection and bring more peace into your Thanksgiving this year:
🌻 1. Keep It Simple
Thanksgiving doesn’t need to be a Pinterest-worthy production. A shared meal, even if it’s take-out or potluck, can hold just as much meaning as a gourmet spread.
🌻 2. Release the Pressure of “Perfect”
Family gatherings can be messy — and that’s okay. Rather than striving for everything to run smoothly, focus on the moments of connection that matter most.
🌻 3. Create Space for Yourself
If the holiday feels overwhelming, give yourself permission to take a quiet walk, sit with a cup of tea, or step outside for a few deep breaths. Even in busy homes, you can create moments of calm.
🌻 4. Seek Support if You Need It
Sometimes holiday stress brings up deeper feelings of loneliness, grief, or overwhelm. Counselling and therapy can provide a safe space to process these emotions — and in Alberta, many extended health benefit plans cover sessions with counselling therapists.
This Thanksgiving, remember: you don’t have to do it all, and you don’t have to do it alone.
✨ If you’re in Alberta and looking for support, I offer virtual counselling, therapy, and coaching.
and take one step toward a calmer season.
